Roadtrip to San Fernando, La Union, Philippines
San Fernando was another of those great accidental finds. Louis and decided to take our motorcycles west from Baguio to the coast. After a great drive down the mountains, we drove around looking for I don't know what. What we found were dozens of kids shouting "Hey Joe" and ultimately stumbled onto what was supposed to be the mayor of Baguio's beach house. The old guy that was the caretaker was a WWII vet in the US Military. He was a wonderful host and we ended up bring some of the other guys on a trip back there. Other than a theft incident and me having a massively swollen thumb, San Fernando turned out to be another gem. I'll never forget the black sand. We heard that the Japanese mined it during the occupation because of the high iron content.
