Living at the Painted Desert, ArizonaMy college roommate, Kenny Odell, was living at the Painted Desert Oasis when I left Denton. The PDO consisted of a restaurant, gift shop, gas station, and ranger station. Kenny had worked there when he was younger and after he left OBU, he went to work there again. With Kenny's help, I was able to get a job there too. I worked as a cook and pumping gas. Trailer houses were provided for the workers, but we had to go into Holbrook for groceries and supplies. I spent quite a lot of time out in the desert and did a few road trips to the Navaho reservation. Met some great folks and had a good time, but after a couple of months I decided to return to Shawnee and go to work in the oil field with another longtime friend, Chris Hilditch. A few years later, I helped my brother get a job at PDO.
